The I List

us politics Nov 26, 2019

Indictments, Impeachments, Indiscretions, Insubordinations, and the I list keeps going—all the way to Hell.  Well, maybe not—it might be going all the way to Heaven.  And if that’s the case, then there’s one thing we are sure of—trouble and a whole lot of it.

Hell, as some suggest, is a "state of being" in life, i.e. where you find yourself when life choices go south. For others, Hell is a real kingdom that operates in the unseen world to deceive and destroy mankind; it cares less if men spiral downward.  Heaven, on the other hand, is perceived as the state of abundance, blessings, and all the good that surrounds us. It too is often cited as being a real kingdom that operates on behalf of mankind.

However, unlike Hell, when it gets a whiff of injustice, immoral equity, or iniquitous perversion—never takes a back seat. Why? Because G-D cares. He cares for His own.

The Torah is replete with examples of G-D’s response to those who reject His morality and foment violence—starting with Noah. And even though G-D promised to never destroy the earth again with an all-out flood, we see His fiery judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah only a few chapters later—and if I recall correctly one of the problems was a visceral hatred towards G-D manifest in sexual perversion—men with men, women with women, accompanied by gross negligence, inequity, and violence towards the fatherless, orphan and widow. So much so that the cries of the slain were heard in Heaven. And G-D got involved. He, Himself, came down and a few days later Sodom and Gomorrah were no more.

Apart from G-D reigning judgment upon cities, states, and nations—we also find that He has a way with political elites who seek to destroy godly, righteous, leaders. One may recall the story of Daniel and the Hebrew boys.

This righteous squad (the Hebrew boys as opposed to the unrighteous one occupying Washington DC) were targets of the political elite the moment they said —we’re not sitting at your corrupt and defiled table. And, not capitulating to a corrupt government got them into some fiery situations.  Three were thrown into a fiery furnace and one, named Daniel, was put into a hungry lion's den—all because they said, “we won’t bow — our G-D will deliver us.”

Their fear of Heaven and defiance of Hell caught G-D’s attention. And, G-d had the last laugh—He utterly destroyed the adversaries—the political elites who were obsessed with their destruction.

The moral of the story is that G-D still reigns over the affairs of men in Heaven—at least the last time I checked. He is watching over the I list that Hell doesn't care about.  He still acts when iniquity becomes the culture and when global elites set out to destroy the righteous—He still acts.

And when you choose sides in a political ruse—you better know which side G-D is on because the opposite side is destined for a "fiery finish.
