What is Social Justice?
Jul 07, 2017On July 4, 1776, The United States of America declared independence from Britain. What a glorious day for the vision of freedom! In the 17-1800's the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of The United States of America became the foundation of our great nation. A foundation that has endured the test of time, until now.
In Israel's history a similar break was made from Egypt and on Mt. Sinai the Torah was imparted (not just given) to the people. A framework of laws, principles, and precepts so wise that under the leadership of King Solomon the Queen of Sheba said, "the half has not been told." What Solomon demonstrated was a wisdom that transcended the understanding of kings and princes because it was rooted in justice and judgment--two central pillars of righteousness.
Sadly, corruption set in throughout the religious and political leaders of Israel. Isaiah the prophet spoke of national deterioration from the leadership on down in terms of "cockatrice eggs, spider's webs, and vipers." He noted that "None call for justice, nor any pleads for truth. . ..the way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their gongs." "Therefore, is judgment far from us, neither does justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness." In other words, the laws of G-D were replaced by the pleasures of men.
How is it today, in America, that a foundation so true, so righteous, and so just is under assault by officials elected by the people and for the people? Do they not take an oath to defend the Constitution and to serve the people?
In this video, I discuss national justice, an idea so interwoven into the fabric of America that it cannot be ignored. And a Hebrew twist on what we thought was "charity."
